New Tunes in Town!
Seoul's Subway Got a Musical Makeover
The Seoul Metro has hit the refresh button on its subway sound, and it's making waves across the city. On January 13th, 2023, after 14 years of the same old tune, the Seoul Metro announced a switch-up in their transfer station music. Since January 16th, 2023, the air around the stations will hum with a fresh melody named 'Pungnyeon (풍년)', bidding farewell to the familiar 'Eolssiguya (얼씨구야)' that has been the soundtrack of countless commutes.
A Symphony of Change
'Pungnyeon'(풍년), which translates to 'a year of good harvest', struck a chord with Seoulites during a 2-week voting spree, earning its spot as the new official transfer station music for several lines. As we speak, it's officially taking over from 'Eolssiguya' on Lines 1 to 8,adding a modern twist to Seoul's subway symphony.
A New Era Begins
This change isn't just about the music; it's a symbol of renewal for the city. While there's a buzz of excitement for the new tune, there's also a tinge of nostalgia for the old classic. 'Eolssiguya'(얼씨구야) has been a part of Seoul's subway journey for so long that it's hard not to feel a bit sentimental bidding it farewell, don't you agree?
